Club 6 Mile-a-Minutes Tutorial Months 1-12

Welcome to club 6 and our addictive Mile-A-Minute blocks! Our Kinship Quilters Facebook Group will be using Kaffe FassettBrandon MablyPhilip Jacobs, and various Martha Negley prints to create these super-speedy quilt blocks. This is a great scrap-busting speed-strip-piecing method of sewing that requires no pre-cutting, no precise nestling or points / seams and no pinning. They are supposed to be wonky and one-of-a-kind, thereby creating some really neat and modern quilt blocks.

From the fabrics you receive in your monthly package, you will follow the steps in the tutorial given here, written by yours truly, specifically for our project in this club this year.

We will be sewing these blocks together virtually in our Kinship Quilters Facebook Group this year once a month in a virtual sew along on alternating Tuesdays. You must be a member of Club 6 to participate. We will see who makes the most blocks each time. Please watch for dates to be announed soon and join us! Fun contest prizes will be earned for participants who rise to the challenge.

Leaders in this group are Deanna Nagle and veteran “Kinshippers” Selma Hawk and Ruth Bass. All have experience with these blocks and quilting as a whole. Feel free to tag them in posts in our Kinship Quilters Facebook Group if you find yourself with a question or “stuck” at any time during this project.  Both Selma and Ruth are Top Testers for Deanna in other quilting projects.

Selma Hawk is a great asset to our group and has been with us since the very beginning, where she once referred to herself as a “beginner” quilter. She first tested this technique as a personal “challenge” from Deanna Nagle during a fun virtual sew along last year. Soon, she completed 30+ blocks in an afternoon and then she had a quilt top. Next, she and Deanna were choosing finishing fabrics and off to the longarmer it went to be completed! Then, Selma completed another in fabrics from her own stash What you see here in these photos are the results of her efforts!

Ruth Bass resides in San Antonio, TX and is involved in many quilt guilds locally in her area. Below are some photos of the testing that Ruth Bass did in this group over the winter break.

Another member who submitted to the contest was Marilynn Lehman, another member from our group since day 1, her blocks are seen below.
